"The Kalash Valleys" Watchoutworld's photos around Rumbour, Pakistan Sunday, February 27, 2011

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Rumbour, Pakistan by TravelPod blogger Watchoutworld titled "The Kalash Valleys" Watchoutworld's travel blog entry: "The next morning I packed up, went for lunch at the family's home and then met A's friends from the previous day - they were driving to the Kalash valleys and could give me a lift in their jeep - perfect! I was planning to go straight to the Rumbor valley but decided to accompany the guys to the Bumboret valley where we visited Shazeer Khan -the local alcohol maker. I tried some of the local spirit made from apricots (very strong but much nicer than the Hunza water), and sat in the kitchen with the women. They gave me a present of a Shu'mann - it's a woven piece that is used as a belt or as a strap for the baskets and is often given to 'honor an appreciated guest'. They also put a Shu'shut and Ku'pas on my head to try out. The Shu'shut is a band worn by women on their heads in their everyday dress, with a long tail that falls at the back. It is elaborately decorated with shells, beads, chain and embroidery. The Ku'pas, which is similarly decorated sits on the top and is usually finished off with some type of bobble. This part is used for special occasions now - such as festival time. Combined they were extremely heavy and hard to keep on. Holding onto the Shu'shut on my head I navigated the snow and ice to visit some of the neighbour's houses and had my first insight into the homes here. Before we left I ...

Obsession {12} Jemi Vampire Love Story Friday, February 25, 2011

"Demi.. It won't be that bad" Selena whispered, as they continued packing. Demi stayed silent, obviously still upset, not just about moving, but about fighting with Joe. Selena stopped packing, her nose twitching. "I smell dog.." she muttered. Demi looked out the window, seeing Nick starring at her through the woods, she sighed. "I'll be right back" she whispered, jumping down, walking over to Nick, the wind blowing through her hair, making the leaves fly through the air. "hey" he said, swallowing hard. "hi" she whispered, standing infront of him. "Demi.. I'm so, so sorry.. I didn't mean to make you upset.. II just angry and--" "it's okay nick" she interrupted him, nodding. Nick swallowed hard, walking closer to her. "I heard.. Demi if this is about me saying those things to you--" "no, no nick it's not.. J-joe just wanted too" she whispered. "and we all need to follow him, he's our king, we have no choice" she whispered, shaking her head. Nick nodded, walking towards her, suddenly feeling a strong wind, and Demi getting pulled back, making her gasp. "WHY THE HELL ARE YOU ON MY LAND" Joe hissed, getting in Nick's face. "Joe! Stop it!" Demi said, trying to pull him away. Nick growled as Joe growled back at him. "GET. The hell away from her" Joe cursed. "Joe!" Demi repeated, trying to pull him away. "then again, you won't be seeing her anymore, I can't wait to take her away from you" he hissed into Nick's eyes. "because she's mine" he added in a snap. "she can speak for ...

"Maud Island" Willys's photos around Waitata Reach, New Zealand Monday, February 21, 2011

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Waitata Reach, New Zealand by TravelPod blogger Willys titled "Maud Island" Willys's travel blog entry: "I have just returned from a wildlife sanctuary on Maud island and Wow!, what an awesome experience and one that I am glad that I had the opportunity to enjoy. It was just unfortunate I could not get Larry into my bag as well. I think Portage might have noticed he was missing. It would have been full alert to find him!! It is a trip that only a few people get to do - Maud island is first of all a sanctuary, and second a place of scientific study. Since we are in the cluster of five neighbouring schools in the Sounds, I was lucky enough to participate in this years trip with the year 5 and up students (10 yrs to 13 yrs). The Department of Conservation picked us up by boat at Manaora (Clove Bay) in the Kenepuru Sounds. Before boarding: our packs, sleeping bags, boots, food etc... had to be checked for any unwanted species - mice, mud, rats, etc. Nothing can go onto the island as it would harm its native wildlife. After quarantine, we had about a 40 minute boat ride out to Maud Island. After a few games and lunch, we went on a bird count of Bellbirds and Tuis which have a beautiful call. We had a walk out to a fort that was built during the second world war to protect against attack from Japan. Later that night we went for a walk and hunt for the wildlife. During the walk we saw the Maud Island Frog - which can fit into ...

Various Artists Song Of Joy Saturday, February 19, 2011

*** Lyrics*** Have mercy on me, sir Allow me to impose on you I have no place to stay And my bones are cold right through I will tell you a story Of a man and his family And I swear that it is true Ten years ago I met a girl named Joy She was a sweet and happy thing Her eyes were bright blue jewels And we were married in the spring I had no idea what happiness and little love could bring Or what life had in store But all things move toward their end All things move toward their their end On that you can be sure La la la la la la la la la la La la la la la la la la la la Then one morning I awoke to find her weeping And for many days to follow She grew so sad and lonely Became Joy in name only Within her breast there launched an unnamed sorrow And a dark and grim force set sail Farewell happy fields Where joy forever dwells * Hail horrors hail * Was it an act of contrition or some awful premonition As if she saw into the heart of her final blood-soaked night Those lunatic eyes, that hungry kitchen knife Ah, I see sir, that I have your attention! Well, could it be? How often I've asked that question Well, then in quick succession We had babies, one, two, three We called them Hilda, Hattie and Holly They were their mother's children Their eyes were bright blue jewels And they were quiet as a mouse There was no laughter in the house No, not from Hilda, Hattie or Holly "No wonder", people said, "poor mother Joy's so melancholy" Well, one night there came a visitor to our little ...

The New Season #4 Thursday, February 17, 2011

NatAllie - The New Season #4 She followed him through the living room and they sneaked in front of ET upstairs. Nat: *whispers* She'll never become a watchdog. Allie: *whispers back* Fortunately. NatAllie: *chuckle* At the roof terrace. Allie: It seems to be years ago, since last time. Nat: Mmmh. It was just half a year ago. It lasts a long time, huh? He laid the sleeping bag on the floor and sat down against the wall. The sky was about changing into a pale gray. His look skimmed over the skyline of Manhattan finally it stopped at Allie. He examined her intently, while she stood at the rail and watched to the far East. She was barefoot and wore very short sleeping shorts and a washed out Eagles t-shirt. Nat: *thinking* Great band. Her long brown hair was undone and moved slightly with the wind. She looked adorable. He smiled, cause he had to admit Allie was the most beautiful best friend he ever had. He kept watching her a few minutes more. Nat: Come here, it's a bit chilly *pats right beside him* She sat down and Nat covered them with his blanket. A minute after she started to examine his cheek and grinned. Nat: Hey! What? Allie: Nothing. I mean...er...I noticed that you've changed. Nat:*frowns and looks at her* Nope. What do you mean? I'm just the same old Nat. Allie: Aww. I mean your body, silly. Hey, what's that? *points his upper lip* Are there some fluffy hairs? *teasing voice* You become a hairy beast. *laughs* Nat: Yeah. The hairy beast wanna eat you. Arrrrgggh ...

"Climbing volcanoes: Karisimbi 4507m" Hilde's photos around Ruhengeri, Rwanda Saturday, February 12, 2011

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Ruhengeri, Rwanda by TravelPod blogger Hilde titled "Climbing volcanoes: Karisimbi 4507m" Hilde's travel blog entry: "nederlandse tekst zie lager Sunday 29 and Monday 30 th of July 2007 Today, Sunday 29/07/2007, we will ascent the Karisimbi. Karisimbi means "the white shell". And that's true: you can see that the top is covered with snow! We drive to Kinigi and pick up the guide. Then, again, we go to the starting point (the same as yesterday). As the Karisimbi is the highest volcanoe of Rwanda, we'll accomplish the ascent in two days. So, this time we have to take with us a tent, sleeping bags, enough drinking water and something to eat in the evening and a few snacks. We will engage 2 porters to carry our rucksacks. About 10 soldiers are accompanying us, for our safety -they say- because we could encounter poachers. Another reason is that we are really close to the Congolese border where lots of 'bad guys' are (the exiled Hutu militants) and the RDF soldiers would protect our security. The track follows the saddle between Visoke and Karisimbi. Some five hours after beginning the trek we arrive at a metal hut which is where the porters stay for the night and where we have to set up our tent. The rocky and sometimes snow-covered summit is a further two to four hours walk through alpine vegetation. This is a wonderful walk although it is quite arduous and conditions can be wet, cold and muddy. To do this trek you need ...

Nakalonga Family Part 1 Friday, February 11, 2011

Chim asked the children what their names were and the grades they were doing. The names are according to the bio sent and they are being added to the sponsorship pages.. Chim then asked them what educational support they required and they all told him that they pray for sponsors to help with the purchase of books, uniforms, socks, shoes and school bag. Chim then asked the grandmother what support she needed for her grandchildren. She then told him that she could really use blankets, shoes and the bags for the children. The children have trouble sleeping because they can't keep warm in the cold air and have no blankets to cover up with. She said that it was difficult for her to provide those things because there is not enough money to go around for extra things such as blankets, shoes, and school things. www.childhopezambia.blogspot.com

Introducing the Nine Feathers Flute Wednesday, February 2, 2011

ANCIENT WOOD BECOMES FLUTE TO HELP CHILDREN Davie, Fla. -- A 50000- year-old piece of wood freed from a bog in New Zealand will help kids that were freed from a garbage dump in Nicaragua by providing funds to build their home. Eight craftsmen collaborated to bring the flute and bag to life. One of the artists burned 9 feathers into the flute to commemorate the creators and named the instrument "The Nine Feathers Flute." It was then sent to recording artist Ronald Roybal (the nineth feather) who made a recording of the flute. The flute is now with Davie-based flutemaker Erik Sampson , who founded a nonprofit in 2007 to support starving children in Nicaragua. During a trip to the impoverished Central American country, Sampson found the children in a house with no water, no electricity, no bathroom, no doors or windows. The kids had been sleeping on a cement floor in empty bags of rice and beans. These children were rescued by Nicaraguan Pastor Carlos Baez who presently cares for them but at that time had no resources. A home for these children is currently under construction. The Nine Feathers Flute flute will be auctioned on Ebay in early 2011 and the proceeds will help build the new orphanage home for the children. About the bog wood: Ancient Kauri is one of the most exotic woods in the world. All the trees were felled thousands of years ago by natural forces and preserved in a bog. Some of the trees measured 40 feet in diameter. After the log has been removed, the area ...
