All About Custom Screen Printing T Shirts Saturday, July 31, 2010

Custom screen printing a T-shirt is when you opt your personal shirt, such as a frequent tee or polo shirt, and then select a design to put on to the shirt. The plan can be your individual creation or designed by someone different.

The are several businesses that supply this service and while some require you obtain by the truckloads that's not forever the situation. You will require to conduct studies on custom screen printing T shirt businesses in your place to see what will best suit your needs.

Shirt Magic is a company that allows you to select your own shirt and design. You can make use of a design that you designed yourself or choose from one of their many designs. They supply to print your shirts with no least order requirement. This is a benefit and eliminates the requirement to buy bulk shirts and allows you to order only what you want.

Custom Ink is one other custom screen printing T shirt company that allows you to design your own shirt or other items of clothing. They have a design lab on their site that you would employ to create your design. Yet, this company does require a nominal amount order, which is never a bad thing. Can someone really ever have too many tee shirts? I don't believe so, particularly when they're custom made.

Broken-Arrow is a custom screen printing tee shirt company, which offers many art samples and screen printing, along with embroidery. Additionally, they propose many different kinds of inks for printing and advertise low prices with high quality products. They were established in 1989, so you can remain confident knowing they have years of experienced.

Screen printing became popular in the 1960s, together with the tie-dying of shirts. People enjoy being in a position to print whatever they select on their shirt. As we are able to all don't overlook and know even now, music bands are big on doing custom screen printing tee shirts.

After time they realized they might make more money selling the tee shirts to fans like us. What we don't understand is we can create our own shirts that we pay twenty dollars for at a music concert.

Custom screen printing tee shirts are produced by you selecting a shirt and design to print on the tee and than either doing it yourself or having a company do it for you. You finish up with a custom made shirt all your individual!

T shirts are very popular and a must-have for anyone's wardrobe. When the tee shirt was first introduced it was known only as underclothing and took some time to become acceptable as wearing on its own out in the open. Presently you can observe everyone walking around in them and scarcely any two are ever alike.

There are a wide variety of sizes and types and obviously, there are the custom screen printing tee shirts. People can wear these knowing they're wearing a one of a kind shirt that they on their own made and can be proud of.

Custom screen printing tee shirts are a great way to spread the word of something you believe in or would like to make others alert to. Make your individual phrase or catch phrase and apply it to the shirt. Know that while you are out wearing it, people are reading it and growing into aware.

Staying Warm When Bugging Out Wednesday, July 28, 2010

While I may use an RV for bugging out and since they generally come with a means of keeping warm much of what I am about to say would no longer apply to me. Unfortunately not everyone has a Motor home for a bug out vehicle so other methods must be employed.

Many people state that there is simply no way that they would ever consider going camping in the winter time but we as survivalists just cqn not predict when an emergency condition will occur forcing us to consider alternative living arrangements. On the other hand there are many people that would perhaps welcome the quiet and peaceful relaxation that can be afforded by nature even in an emergency situation. All this peace and quiet can quickly be disturbed and result in a nightmare if the proper precautions are not taken to stay warm. Even in mid April as here in Delaware the nights have been very cool causing some sort of heat to be necessary. In such cases here are some tips on how to stay warm when surviving in the outdoors.

Foremost you should ensure that you have the proper equipment for the season. Most survivalists have both a winter bug out kit as well as a summer one. Just because the calendar says its spring don't automatically assume that you can pack up the winter kit and switch to the spring one. When preparing to bug out always try to check the weather condition in the area that you are heading to. In my case that's easy since I plan to bug out within a 400 mile radius of my home. Others may have different plans and should follow the above rule carefully. Pay particular attention to the minimum temperatures where you are heading. If you know that you will be using a tent and a sleeping bag then make certain that these items are rated properly for these temperatures.

You may wish to consider the use of a sleeping pad even if your sleeping bag is properly rated for the temperature conditions you are about to encounter. It is highly likely that you can still find yourself freezing at night if you fail to use such a device. What happens is the weight of your body will compress the sleeping bag filling as you lay on it and ultimately reduce its effectiveness. The ground is usually very cold even within the confines of a tent.

The weather can be very unpredictable and as such you should take the proper precautions against water and rain. Rain can not only be very uncomfortable but can also eliminate any warmth that may be provided by your clothing. Down sleeping bags as well as cotton fabric clothing are useless for warmth if they get wet. Make sure that you have rain covers for your survival gear and ponchos for yourself.

Although one should not have to be told you would be surprised at the number of people who fail to bring extra clothing with them. Even if it appears that you will have mild temperatures during your bug out and expect warm weather you should always be prepared for a worst case scenario. Bring plenty of extra socks, some long insulated underwear, a hat, a scarf and gloves.

Here is a trick that I learned a long time ago when I went camping. Bring a heat-proof water bottle and during the day fill it with drinking water for drinking while at night place boiling water in it and wrap it in cloth to use as a hot water bottle. If its properly sealed you can place it in your sleeping bag prior to going to bed and it will help keep you warm overnight.

There are many hints and rules that you can follow to keep warm and being a survivalist or prepper you should avail yourself with as many as you can. By continuing to learn you can assure yourself and your family some warm nights ahead when bugging out.

Why Merino Wool is Such a Great Choice For Kids Tuesday, July 27, 2010

We all feel the cold and often come down feeling sick as a result of it. Many adults are prone to coughs and colds at least twice a year, but it's our wee kids that are mostly being affected.

From the moment our kids are born, they're susceptible to an array of illnesses and infections. Their bodies have literally no defence mechanism in place and because their bodies haven't become exposed to the elements. Apart from various injections, there's very little that can be done to prevent a lot of cases of sickness among babies.

However when it comes to coughs and colds, it tends to be the 2 - 8 year olds that are biggest casualties. As soon as kids start kindergarten a whole new element of sickness appears. Other than keep them home from kindergarten or school when another kid is sick, there's not a lot a parent can do to avoid their kids getting sick.

Catching colds is common and often unavoidable with kids, but when it comes to keep them warm, dry and protected from the weather, there's plenty that can be done. The best solution is merino wool clothing.

Merino wool is regarded as today's miracle clothing fibre. Merino sheep are mostly found at very high altitudes and often at below zero temperatures. The reason they're so resilient is because of their merino wool fleece. This natural fibre has a similar affect on kids, as well as adults. Super soft against the skin, merino wool is perfect for kids, in that it's insulating and breathable, meaning kids stay at the optimum temperature in the coldest, nastiest weather.

With the world becoming transfixed with things that are naturally healthy for the body and the environment, merino wool clothing for babies, kids and adults is a big player in the clothing market. As long as there are merino wool sheep, there will never be a shortage of people dressing themselves in what is perhaps the world's most popular natural fibre clothing option.

Have a Nice Sleep Baby Saturday, July 24, 2010

Taking a baby to bed is not an easy job. There are some things that you have to pay attention. When you do the things, the quality of sleeping of your baby will good. What are the things that have to be attention?

1. Make sure that you know the signs of your baby when he is sleepy
Scratching eyes, crying, and yawning are the signs that your baby is sleepy. A baby who is exhausted has difficulties in having a comfort sleeping. Thus, before it is hard for him to get some sleep, make sure that you pay attention those signs

2. Know that the time period for a baby sleep is very long
A baby needs 16 hours a day. He only wakes up for eating and changing the wet diapers and clothes. The more he grows; his time to sleep will decrease in the noon and longer in the night.

3. Feed him, take a break and take a nap after that
This is natural if your baby sleeps after he drinks him milk. Giving milk before a newborn baby sleeps is a time to build a good bound with your baby. However, if your baby is given milk until he falls asleep, then that is the way that he learns to get some sleep. Try to give the break between the giving milk and the sleeping that he will get. You can do it by reading him a story or singing a lullaby.

4. Take a longer nap for him
Is your baby is easy to get sleepy? If your baby is less than 6 months, but his nap is not well. Try to make him sleep longer. You can do this, in the time when he is usually takes a nap, ask him playing and make him nit directly fall asleep. To make the baby takes a nap longer, 1-2 hours; he will get a nice sleep at night.

5. Make a routine before taking a nap
You can do this by taking him to bed at the same time every day, avoiding taking a nap in the noon or waking him up sooner (you have to be careful in waking him up.) and always use his own bed when he wants to sleep to make him associated with him sleeping time.

6. Make your baby sleeps because he wants to do so
After some weeks, start to let your baby by himself in his bed. He does have to fall asleep in your hug. When he starts getting sleepy, put him in his bed. This will teach him to get sleep by his own without hanging on his mother. This will also teach him to go back to sleep when he is awaken in the night.

7. Think about the safety
Move your baby if he falls asleep in the unsafe places. This includes couch, the adults' bed, or the floor. Always put your baby in supine position. This will avoid him from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Move the blanket, pillow, doll, and other smooth stuffs from your baby's bed. Additionally, do not let your baby sleeps with another person who is bigger than him or your pet.

8. Avoid to wake your baby up
What if your baby falls asleep in his car seat when you travel with him? Take his car seat. He can finish his sleep. You do not have to wake him up to move him to his bed. Usually, in his nice sleep, it will be easier to move him.

9. Avoid to come toward him in a hurry
Come to your baby when you feel that it is necessary. Remember that little movement or soft voice can wake him up. Thus, only approach him when he really needs you.

Reading articles on http://infantcarseatreviews.org/ will be very useful when you are going to have a travel with your baby. You might also need infant car seat stroller to be attached in your car to comfort your baby during your traveling.

Metaphors Buried in Etymologies Thursday, July 22, 2010

If you knew the etymologies of common words like nature and culture, you would know that these words are derived from Latin and have to do with "birth" (nature) and a farming tool (cultus). The buried metaphor in the etymological meaning of "nature" should be obvious. Nature refers to things as they were "born" -- that is, as they exist all by themselves without human cultivation. Culture, on the other hand, is a bit more tricky, but it refers to cultivation of nature, if you will. Its original meaning was "agriculture," but it has undergone what in my Pious Impostures and Unproven Words I call "intraverbal metaphoric growth." In other words, it grew from its original meaning to include any way of life or to refer to people who are cultivated by knowing things like literature, history, etc.

Exploring the etymologies of other words can also be highly revelatory. I am Hungarian by birth. I came to the United States over 50 years ago. In my second job (in a knitting mill), I was assigned to work with an older woman who was born in the United States but had Hungarian parents, so she spoke the language, to a point. In any case, the foreman thought that by having her show me the ropes, I would learn about the job quickly. At that time, 50 years ago now, my English was still on shaky grounds. In any case, one interesting thing that I remember about his woman is how she made fun of the Hungarian word for ventriloquist. The Hungarian word, translated literally into English, is "bellyspeaker." What this woman did not realize, of course, is that that's precisely what "ventriloquist" means as well - in its original Latin.

Another important word I want to look at is "spirit." It, too, comes from the Latin and really means no more than "breath" according to its etymological meaning. And, of course, we are dealing here with another word that has undergone tremendous intraverbal metaphoric growth. If you stop to think about it, though, you may realize the reason why "spirit" means so much more than "breath" in today's English. When a person dies, they stop breathing. So those who witness his/her death can say that the "spirit" ("breath") is gone. What's left behind is a dead body. Its spirit is gone. Since in many cultures and religions there is a firmly held belief in the immortality of the soul, you can easily see how the Latin word for "breath" became the modern concept of "spirit."

In this connection it would also be interesting to examine the etymology of "religion." It also comes to us from the Latin and its most accepted etymology is "re + ligare," which means being bound or tied down. Once again you can see the innate (born with) genius of the human mind. The original meaning is clearly a brilliant metaphor for "religion." When a person is religious and follows the "dictates" of his/her religion, he or she is tied down, in a manner of speaking, to those "dictates" -- dogmas, etc.

Since the English language as it exists today was born when Anglo Saxon (Old English) amalgamated with Norman French (after 1066), many of its words are Latinate in their origin. Greek words have also entered our vocabulary in fairly large numbers. Perhaps one of the most interesting common words you should know about is the word "school." Its original Greek meaning has to do with children's playtime. I, as a retired teacher, would in fact say that its original meaning should still apply to good teaching. Learning should be fun, and not some unseemly and at times intolerable chore.

I'd like to just touch upon two related words here. "Theory" and "theater." You are probably going to be surprised to learn that these words are cousins, perhaps even siblings. They are derived from the Greek stem that has to do with seeing. In other words, a theory is the way of seeing something. And as the word is used in science today, it doesn't mean idle speculation. It means something that has been empirically proven and verified. Since science is a highly self-correcting enterprise, theories stand as accepted facts as long as new evidence doesn't modify them.

Theater is a place where you go to "see" a play. It is a place for sight, for the spectacle of a play. Actually the word "drama" originally covered both tragedy and comedy. It was a collective noun. Actually, the original meaning of "drama" has to do with "action." Comedy and tragedy both have to do with singing; comedy's original meaning was "singer at the revels," whereas tragedy's original meaning was "goat-song." The metaphoric "carry over" (the original Greek meaning a the word "metaphor") is rather mysterious here. Why "goat-song"? Perhaps it has to do with plays originally involving something that reminded people of sacrificing a goat in some ceremony? I don't know. But isn't it interesting that our language is chock full of words that carry buried metaphors with them, which - when we unearth them, as it were -- reveal rather interesting things. So do look up the etymologies of words. You will more than enrich your vocabulary. You will gain extra understanding of how the human mind works with language.

Baby's Sleep Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Sleeping babies are peaceful, relaxing and enjoyable. New parents love to sneak into their baby's room to watch them sleep, breathe in and out and turn their head. It is one of those rare moments when a parent can smile and feel perfectly happy, probably very tired, but mainly happy.

Most parents wonder how they can get their baby to sleep through the night. After all, it is hard work to feed baby constantly, especially when breastfeeding.

Baby's natural sleep pattern

The daily average sleeping time of a one-month old baby is 16 and a half hours but we have to consider that some babies sleep far more and others far less. New parents quickly understand that they cannot "train" their infant into a routine that suits them. There is no ideal baby sleep solution! After all, babies have to get used to a whole new world.

The infant sleep pattern is initially very different: newborn's sleep typically consists of short intervals of sleep intermingled with even shorter periods of wakefulness. At first, there is a very limited biological sleep pattern since there was no day and night to adjust to within the womb. However, most babies will be able to sleep for a length of 4 hours by around 4 months of age.

As baby grows their sleep pattern changes too. There are good biological reasons for infants to change the way they sleep. Constant growth spurts in the first year of their lives require frequent feeding, thus more interrupted sleep for both parent and baby. If a parent forces his newborn into some kind of sleep routine, it may interfere with the milk supply when breastfeeding.

It is extremely demanding when baby goes through different phases of sleep routine but remember, this will change! Allow your baby to feed when he needs to and to have a cuddle when he needs it. It is a very special time indeed because it gives parents the chance to bond.

Ideal baby sleeping position

When parents co-sleep with their infant the baby's natural position is laying on his back. This position helps to breastfeed more easily, to be able to attend to the baby quicker and it leaves space for the baby to move. This natural sleeping position is supported by the fact that the rate of SIDS in the UK from 1981 to 1992 fell by a staggering 90% since the new sleeping position was advocated.

Research into the way babies sleep has shown that sleeping on the back is not only natural, but also life saving. However, some infants refuse to sleep on their back. The position they were used to in the womb is the reason why they may feel more comfortable laying on their tummy.

When sleeping on their back baby can fuss a lot with their flailing arms and legs. Here it is advisable to swaddle baby in a lightweight blanket. It may make him feel more comfortable and relaxed. If swaddling is not an option for baby, a simple organic baby sleeping bag may do the trick.

Baby's breathing

A newborn's breathing rate is irregular. Their normal breathing rate is about 40 times a minute; however, if baby sleeps this can slow down to as much as 20 times a minute. In addition, babies experience pauses in breathing several times during the night. The irregular breathing pattern and the pauses are completely normal because babies are born neurologically unfinished. Their breathing control centre in the brain is still immature.

Baby's best sleeping environment

There are some gentle ways to help baby sleep more comfortably.

- If your baby is uncomfortable in the cot, try a cradle or a moses basket in order to re-create the comfort of the womb.

- Swaddling has been proven to be very successful with most newborns.

- Make sure the room is not too warm and not too cold (around 20°C).

- As mother's movement soothes the baby in the womb, rocking, swaying and patting will still help baby to relax outside the womb. A baby hammock is also very helpful in calming the baby.

- Don't be afraid of background noise! Baby is used to noise from being in the womb. If you try to create a quite sleeping place for your baby, it may actually be counterproductive.

- Babies sleep best by knowing that mum or dad are close. If you are busy working from home, cooking or playing with the sibling, create a quite corner in the room for your baby to relax.

- Don't stress yourself with establishing a night time routine! If this is your first baby, it is difficult enough to find out what routine actually works best for you and your baby. As mentioned above, baby's physical development causes sleep patterns to change. Eventually, you will feel the need for routine and, most importantly, you will find that your baby has settled more. Give him about six months before introducing a routine that will work for all of you.

- Make sure that baby's immediate environment is toxin-free by choosing organic baby bedding and an organic baby mattress. By buying only organic baby products you will cut baby's allergy risks significantly and allow him to move about freely without the fear of chemicals and pesticides.

3 Ways to Find a Pop Up Travel Cot Sunday, July 18, 2010

Warmer weather and summer activities call for travel and fun. Many people will camp, travel to distant relatives and have extra company visiting them. Extra sleeping space is important and a pop up travel cot can be a great asset to have on hand when extra sleeping space is needed. Many people find them a great asset to ease the discomfort of a wilderness experience. Instead of sleeping on the ground in a sleeping bag they use a comfortable pop up travel cot. A cot is also extremely handy and easy to store in a closet or garage for extra sleeping when needed. Instead of having space used for permanent bed the extra space can be used for everyday living and simply pull out the cot when needed.

When selecting a cot is is a good idea to be prepared in advance with the requirements necessary for a successful buying experience. It is not necessary to over complicate the experience. Most people find that a good price point and ease of storage are very important to making a wise decision. Selecting one that will give a comfortable sleeping experience is of course essential. After all, sleep is the purpose of buying the cot in the first place.

Making a decision on where to shop can be a challenge. Here are some good options to make the buying experience easier:

1. On line shopping is quick, easy and readily accessible any time. Without leaving home a person can see the options available, compare prices and read comfort reviews.
2. Look in your area and find out what is available in the various stores. Often there will be great variety in price options and styles. Comparison shopping is a good idea.
3.Do not overlook thrift stores and consignment options. People sometimes get rid of cots when they move or downsize. The best news is that they are seldom used so finding them in great shape is quite possible. Shopping in this type environment also enables you to contribute to a charity. There are usually several charitable stores located in most cities these days.

"GO!" "B-but Father-" "No! No excuses!" he put his hands on my shoulders and roughly pushed me out of the door, causing me to fall to the floor."Dont come back unless youve sold all of them!" he slammed the door shut. I sighed and looked down at my knee that was bleeding from when I hit the floor. I stood up picking up the box of Christmas candles and rushed to the next street I stopped the first person I came across, a man wearing a business suit and carrying a briefcase "excuse me sir, would you be kind enough to buy one of these Christmas candles for a dollar?" "Why not? Christmas is the time for giving right?" I nodded and he smiled and took a dollar out of his wallet and handed it to me taking a green candle "Thankyou sir, god bless" I stopped an old woman next "excuse me, would you like to buy a Christmas candle for a dollar?" she sighed "No" And with that she left. I guess Im sleeping outside. I looked around the street, it was empty apart from three young children running around in oversized winter coats, I sat on a shop door step and watched them laughing and playing. I wish I was so carefree, in my life, that stage never existed, my mother died when I was two and my father had resented me ever since, I couldnt even remember my mother I never really knew her but deep down, I know she loved me, I can feel it. My father tells me it was my fault. He says I distracted her in the car that day, the day she died, she crashed the car and by some miracle I lived. I looked ...

Stripped of all our worldly possessions, even derobing the very clothes from our backs, we now had nothing. This is how the Cheeky as you Cant journey began. On 21st September we vowed to circumnavigate Australia without spending a penny to show that Australians are fairdinkum the worlds friendliest people. Living like a modern day swagman we pick up work along the way and donate every penny of our wages to Book Aid. Collecting alpaca poo for worm samples, oiling bridges, washing road trains, digging trenches, cleaning mountain tops and scrubbing toilets, we have done it all! And every job gets us a little more money to educate children around the world. Youre mad! Toddler Nap Mats For Fun and Comfortable Nap Times Wednesday, July 14, 2010

One of the cutest things that we'll see is a little toddler napping on the floor after being exhausted from all that playing. It's cute but you have to be concerned that it's not really comfortable for the baby to sleep on the floor. Besides, it's unhygienic. This is where toddler nap mats can help you. Simply put, they will give your little ones a perfect place to take a nap.

A lot of parents would tell you that it is one of the most important things that you can buy for your toddler and it's hard to disagree. Yes, it does one job only. But you're forgetting the fact that it does a great job at it. If you choose wisely, your toddler will have something fun and comfortable.

Obviously, comfort is the first thing that you should consider when checking out toddler nap mats. It doesn't make sense if you're going to buy one that your baby will have a hard time sleeping in. A toddler needs his rest and sleep and it's your responsibility to provide the things needed to ensure that. A comfortable bed takes care of nighttime sleep. But in the afternoon when your baby needs to recharge, a mat for napping makes more sense.

Your baby will also want something fun so your sleeping bag just won't do. Most parents place them inside the play room so your baby can take a nap the moment that he needs it. You should check out toddler nap mats that are fun. This is very easy to do since there are a lot of available designs for toddlers. As an example, you can buy a nap mat printed with cats and dogs. They won't look out of place inside the play room.

Having one will also encourage them to get that much-needed sleep. It would do your toddler well if he can catch a quick nap every afternoon. But let's face it. Most of them would rather play than take a nap. With fun toddler nap mats, napping will be like playing for them. Your kid will consider it as a toy. This means you don't have to bribe them anymore to go take a nap.

One of the best things about it is you can take it anywhere. You can take it to your kid's day care center so he'll have a familiar place where he can take his nap. You can also take it on trips. As mentioned, it's your responsibility to make sure that your baby has a place where he can take his nap and this includes instances when you're traveling. Besides, toddler nap mats are very inexpensive so there's no reason for you not to buy at least one for your baby.

You should buy toddler nap mats for your little one to ensure that he'll have a fun and comfortable place where he can take his nap. Check out the importance of preschool nap mats at Wooden Toddler Toys and buy one for your kid today.

Fake Designer Bags - As Good As the Real Thing Sunday, July 11, 2010

Designer bags are counted as being one of the most essential fashion accessories with which to make a fashion statement. They are taken as a symbol of your personality and also reflect your association with a particular brand. It is all about spending to acquire your favorite designer bag. However in some cases these bags may cost a fortune and thus many simply cannot afford to buy them. In such cases you should look for fake designer handbags that are as good as the real thing.

The brand name is not the only thing that makes designer bags sell. Rather women usually fall for the creative design, exciting colors and the use of exquisite materials employed in the construction of these bags. Functionality is also an important issue that needs to be taken into consideration when looking to acquire a bag. Today's bags are ergonomically designed to offer you all these features at the same time. However if you conduct a market survey you will find that designer bags can cost more than 2000 dollars! The surprising thing is that many people are willing to pay the heavy prices of these exquisite bags just because there are in fashion.

The media has had a big impact on influencing the mindset of people. The glitz and glamour that surrounds celebrities sporting designer bags has intrigued the populace to adopt similar fashion trends for which they have spend loads of money. While many people want to look like the celebrities most of them do not have that kind of money to spend on designer clothing and accessories.

Today interested individuals have the opportunity to go for replica designer bags that appear to be an exact copy of the real thing. A few years back the quality and construction of these replica bags was poor enough to make you notice that it wasn't the original branded item. However in recent years this concept has become extremely popular as more and more people want to acquire replicas of their favorite branded bags and this has caused the quality of these items to go up as the price continues to fall because of increased competition.

The casual observer will not be able to tell your replica bag from the real one. However when you do opt to purchase fake designer bags then you should carefully inspect them especially with regards to the use of materials. Make sure that the bag is made up of fine quality material that does not appear to be such that it will give way after some time. Similarly it should have high quality construction that will keep it functional for years to come.

By carefully inspecting the inventory of fake designer bags you will be able to find exactly the right kind of bag that appeal to your sense of style and give the authentic look of your favorite designer label. The good thing is that you will be able to buy it at an extremely affordable rate.

Find your favorite fake designer bags of high quality at beubag.com. This is your one stop source for buying excellent replica bags that are as good as the real branded items.

Five Tips For Getting Your Child to Sleep Friday, July 9, 2010

Sleep, and the lack of it, is a big issue for many parents, and can cause a great deal of unnecessary stress. But there are things you can do to help and here are our tips for making bedtime less of an ordeal.

1. Make their bedroom special. Make it their room and involve them in the design if at all possible. It's nice if they can have a hand in choosing furniture and colour schemes (within reason - "please can I have that bed like Cinderella's coach and gold leaf on the walls?" may be a step too far for most parents) but even if your budget doesn't run to that you can involve them by putting up their drawings, or letting them choose art for the walls that they like - this doesn't have to be expensive, I bought cheap perspex frames from Ikea and framed cheerful postcards. Not all children are lucky enough to have their own room - but try and give each child their own space within a room, with storage for their special toys.

2. Stick to a bedtime routine. It's tempting just to let your demented toddler wear themselves out and fall asleep on the sofa - but trouble can ensue later when they wake up having been deposited in their own bed. Stick to roughly the same bedtime every night, and the same routine - maybe a bath, a story and a cuddle, low lighting in their bedroom and quiet voices.

3. Keep putting them back to bed. Don't get drawn into debate on the landing. The first time you can say, firmly, "no, it's bedtime - back to bed, now." Say goodnight, and exit, stage left. After that, don't engage in conversation at all - just lead them, gently and firmly, back to bed. You may have to do this a great many times - and it's hard if it's the middle of the night and you're half asleep - but stick with it. If having your child in bed with you is not a problem then go ahead - but we found that sleeping with our eldest son was like sharing a bed with a restless octopus - and none of us got a decent night's sleep.

4. Get a nightlight. Some children are genuinely scared of the dark and a nightlight can ease the terror for them - it's not a big deal (don't tell anyone, but my eldest still has a nightlight at 11). Nightmares can be a problem for small children too - but they do tend to grow out of them. Be calm and reassuring (and maybe keep a close eye on what they are watching - my youngest had a spate of nightmares after watching a children's programme about vampires) and tell yourself "this too will pass."

5. Reward charts. This worked well with my youngest son, who had a habit of waking us up every time he woke up - he would go back to bed, but it made for a lousy night's sleep when he was appearing in our bedroom three or four times a night. I made a star chart and he got a star if he stayed in bed 'til morning without waking us. Seven stars and he got a treat - he's a mercenary wee soul so this worked wonders!

Above all, if you have a yo-yoing child, up and down all night, keep calm. Don't lose your temper - it won't help and you'll feel worse for it. Be consistent - keep putting them back to bed - and they will, eventually, get the message. It's a blissful feeling when you realise you can't remember when you were last woken in the night by a small child appearing, ghost-like, at the side of your bed.

The Way I Am Episode 2 Thursday, July 8, 2010

Danielle's POV: BRING BRING! I wake up by the sound of my alarm clock. I look at my alarm clock and it reads 3:55 AM. I get up and I march to the shower. It is 4:50 when I get out of the shower and I hear the screaming of the children play. My sister is in the room still sleeping. She doesnt get up until 5 because she takes showers in the night. I get my jeans and my shirt and I go to the attic. I get dressed in the attic because that is the only place Linda said we can have to ourselves without nobody bothering us. At around 5:10 I hear someone coming up the stairs. KNOCK KNOCK. I go over to the door , unlock it and I open it. "Hey! " My sister says pushing her way into the room. She is holding her makeup bag. She is already dressed into her usual skirt, shirt, and cardigan. Her hair is her usual pin straight Gabbi's POV: AHHH! HAHAHA! I wake up knowing its around 5 am. The other foster kids are running and playing around. I get up from the bed and I quickly change into my skirt and shirt. I put my cardigan on and I get my makeup bag and go to the attic. I knock and Dani opens the door. "Hey!" I say too loud. I make my way inside. I open the curtains and let some sunshine in "Hello starshine! The earth says hello!" I run to hug her. I then sit down on my desk and I start putting on my foundation. I look at my sister and she is still in her pajamas. I silently laugh. At 5:30 I am done putting on my makeup so I turn up the TV. At 7:30 We get into van and start dropping off ...

Birdwatching For Beginners - The New Birder Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Bird watching is, next to gardening, the fastest growing hobby in America. Birding gets you outside into the fresh air and engages you with nature. Birds are amazing creatures. The variety of size, shape, and color provides interest and can draw you into the fascinating science of ornithology - the study of birds.

A whole new world of day trips and hikes opens up an opportunity to exercise or merely take in some beautiful scenery. Suddenly, you become familiar with local parks, hiking trails, and various natural settings.

All you need to get started in bird watching is a pair of binoculars and a field guide to birds of your area. Browse your field guide to familiarize yourself with the kinds of birds you may see in your region. You can decide to look for particular birds in their habitat.

The kinds of birds you are likely to see also depends on the time of year. Check the field guide for birds that nest in the area in which you live or look for migratory birds in the spring and fall. Arctic birds that winter in temperate climates make bird watching interesting in the winter.

You don't even have to exert yourself. You can birdwatch in your own back yard. Encourage birds to visit your home by providing water and food. Many bird sanctuaries encourage you to stay in your ca so as not to disturb habitat. A car makes an excellent blind from which to view birds.

So, being disabled, elderly, or merely reluctant to hike is no impediment to bird watching. Retirees can find a new interest - great for the old brain. Homeschooling parents can use bird watching as a lesson in the natural sciences.

If you are a people-person, or would like some personal training, join a local birding club. Such groups can be found through the National Audubon Society or your state Ornithological Club. Watch for bird walks at local parks or through your local recreation club. Led by experienced birders, you'll learn where to look for birds, how to behave while birding and may even learn to recognize birds through their song.

Make sure you wear neutral colors when you birdwatch. Birds are highly sensitive to color so you should blend in with your surroundings. It's best to use quiet voices and avoid loud and sudden noises so as not to frighten birds away. Standing still and keeping quiet will allow birds to get used your presence.

Birdwatching is an easy, engaging hobby that opens your eyes and engages your senses. It is inexpensive and environmentally safe.

Disney Club Penguin Slumber Tote (Sleeping Bag) Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Disney Club Penguin Slumber Tote (Sleeping Bag) Review

I purchased this Club Penguin sleeping bag w/ tote, for my daughter today. She was thrilled!! The bag itself is cute, roomy enough and lightweight. My daughter is 10 yrs old, and I was concerned that she would "outgrow" this bag. But, she has plenty of room and the bright multi-colored penguin pattern on the inside of the bag is not babyish at all. (I was concerned about the "juvenile" factor because she has outgrown her Disney Princess bag, feeling it was too young for her.... The sleeping bag is SOFT and comfy. The lining is a very soft fleece, and I believe it will be perfect for sleepovers. It will provide warmth, but not overheat the child. The tote easily holds the sleeping bag and you don't have to "stuff" it in there to fit. Another plus, since there is room in the bag for a pair of PJs and toothbrush. The zipper is handy, and the tote has 2 smaller zipper pockets on the side to fit other smaller items. The tote has a 2 straps that easily allow carrying the bag around your shoulder (like a purse), and the whole thing is lightweight. I was surprised how lightweight the product is. The tote looks like an igloo -- perfect for those Club Penguin fans.
I found our bag at Toys R Us and I paid . I think this was a real deal - the product is worth it...most of all, my daughter is so happy that she is sleeping (in the bag), in her bed right now. I'm very happy with the Club Penguin sleeping tote/bag.

VanDusen Botanical Garden Travel Review Sunday, July 4, 2010

The VanDusen Botanical Garden is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at the intersection of Oak and West 37th Street. The garden covers 55 acres with over 7,000 plants from all over the world. One of the first things that you will notice about this park is their sign "Please walk on the grass!" With something different to see each season, this really is a truly friendly and inspiring garden!

To gain entrance to the gardens, you will have to pay an admission fee. The botanical garden is open seven days a week and is available for wedding ceremonies, receptions and photos. As well, you can book the gardens for filming shoots. The VanDusen Botanical Garden has over 7,500 varieties of plants from all over the world and ten different specialty gardens. It also features an international sculpture collection, an Elizabethan Maze and is home to over 60 different varieties of birds.

The VanDusen Botanical Garden is a relatively young garden. The site had been leased by the Shaughnessy Golf Club from the Canadian Pacific Railway until 1960, when the golf club moved to a different location. A subdivision was proposed, but local citizens opposed the move. In 1966, the Vancouver Park Board successfully purchased the land to be used as a park. In 1971, development started and on August 30, 1975 the VanDusen Botanical Garden was officially opened to the public.

There is something different to see all the time, as each season offers its own highlights. The Elizabethan Maze is formed from cedar trees and can be enjoyed year round. From early spring to fall you will see a variety of flowers in bloom. During the fall, the leaves begin to turn colour and their beautiful autumn colours are reflected in the surrounding ponds and lakes. During the winter, the holly reigns along with winter-flowering shrubs.

You can travel through the VanDusen Botanical Garden on either a guided or self-guided walking tour. Make sure you are wearing good walking shoes, as there is a lot to see, such as the specialty gardens and sculptures. The specialty gardens include the Canadian Heritage Garden, a Stone Garden, the Alma VanDusen Garden, a Meditation Garden, a Formal Rose Garden, the Stanley Smith Rock Garden, a Children's Garden, the Heather Garden, the Phyllis Bentall Garden and the Bonsai House. Spread throughout the garden is 22 different sculptures, including a fountain, two cedar totem poles, a sundial, three busts of different botanists, statues and some abstract forms.

Before you leave, make sure to stop by the garden shop and the restaurant. The garden shop has a wonderful selection of gifts ideas including home décor, books, jewelry and gardening supplies, such as plants, tools and seeds. The Shaughnessy Restaurant is very elegant, with both outdoor and indoor dining. Inside, the large windows let in plenty of sunshine and allow you to gaze at the beautiful gardens outside. The food is amazing and features the best of West coast cuisine.

Children's Self Confidence is Essential For Success in Life and How Parents Can Help Them Build It Thursday, July 1, 2010

Children's self confidence is an essential quality for them to live better in their later stages of life in the society. This attribute is developed from the way their parents treat them. If parents treat them as per the satiation and in an appropriate manner then it will have a positive impact on them. Never worry about your child being overconfidence.

Giving a regular reactive care at the age as early as infant will create a positive feeling in the child mind. This will make the child feel more confident and will have a strong bonding with the parents. When the child feels that he is loved, he will be more comfortable and will try to explore his surroundings. This will make the child to be more curious, and he starts to learn things around him.

If children feel more comfortable with their parents than children self confidence building can be an easy task for the parents. Parents can put some firm discipline action when they are getting up to mischief. The pressure on discipline should be smooth and parents should make them understand that it is for a particular reason they are punished. The best and the effective way to punish the children is the use of phrase "time out". These constant firm discipline rules on the children along with the parents love and caring relationship will make the children self confidences build more, and children will feel the more secured.

Children should be allowed to socialize and explore with their age group kids. This will help them to be stronger physically and emotionally. Children indulging with their group will serve as a pool of joy and this indulge will make them learn social skills independently. It makes them more popular among their friends and enhances the children self-esteem.

Confidence in children is brought when parents avoid physical punishment and irritating them. This kind of behavior with the children will only give a short term result. During the later stages of the children's life, they tend to use violence to handle a conflicting situation. It even enhances child's aggression and overall these types of children are not able to handle the situation has they loss self control because of lack confident.

Parents should encourage their children to praise themselves when they have accomplished some task or even when they have won a game. This way children confidence is increased to certain level. When he is given credits for his achievement, he will sense his worth. This self praising not only builds confidence in children but also the talent to handle a tough situation more wisely and positively.

To make the children confidence age 3 to 7 is the ideal period for the parents to take the right action. During this age period children ability to grasp the input is more they will understand things quickly, and it will be for the lifetime. If you make them understand these points which help in building confidence in children more easily.

SreePrashanth writes about children confidence building and he provides a free eBook on how to build self confidence. This helps both parents and children in building there confidence. If you are searching for the best gift for your kids he suggests that children's sleeping bags are the best.
